Leisure activities

After-school care organised by the school (Frístund)

Students from first to 4th grade are invited to participate in our after-school program. The after-school program at Landakotsskóli offers structured courses in art, computers, drama, languages, music and outdoor education and allows students to socialize with their peers. The head of Frístund is Bryndís and you can contact her if you have any questions.

Older students also have access to a range of engaging extra-curricular classes, such as language classes, cooking, chess, school newspaper as well as a bi-weekly homework club.

Youth centres (5th to 10th grade)

There are two youth centres close to the school which offer activities and social events for our older students. You will find the programme of the youth centres on our events' page.

Kotasælan is a new youth centre which takes place in the teenage wing of our school and is run by school staff.

Frosti is the neighbourhood youth centre run by the city and the best place to meet kids from other nearby schools.

Other leisure activities

With school days being rather short, after-school activities are very popular in Iceland. A range of sports, music classes and even homework help are run by various establishments in every neighbourhood. The city offers a significant grant to help parents fund activities for their children. Many extra-curricular activities also offer summer courses to fill the long summer break.

If your child is interested in music, please note that it is possible to get music classes in school during school hours. Please contact the Head of the Music Department, Dagný, if you would like to know more.
